Welcome to Waterford Women’s FC – Maeve Williams

Waterford Women’s FC are thrilled to announce that goalkeeper Maeve Williams has penned a deal at the club to become the first-ever signing of Waterford Women’s FC.

Williams, a life-long supporter of Waterford FC, has vast SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division experience, having come up through the ranks at Wexford FC Women where she first joined the club in 2018 at WU17 level.

After her signing in 2018, she earned her maiden senior appearance for Wexford away to Cork City Women FC in 2019 as she kept a clean-sheet in a 3-0 win for Wexford, whilst also getting valuable game time with their WU17 & WU19 sides.During her time with the Wexford FC Women’s academy, she continued her development with a WU17 league runners up medal in 2019 and winning the WU19 shield in 2021.

Maeve became an integral figure for Wexford during her time at Ferrycarrig, most notably in 2022 where she was a mainstay in between the net as Wexford narrowly missed out on the league title, losing to Shelbourne on the final day of the season.

The 22-year-old impressed with the Ferrycarrig side during her spell, as she earned appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with appearances against KS Vllaznia Shkodër (Albania) and FC Gintra (Lithuania), along with representing the Republic of Ireland up to U19 level.

In total, Maeve made over 70 senior appearance for the club during her almost eight-year spell at the club, along with picking up four pieces of silverware with the club, winning three FAI Cups (2018, 2019 & 2021) as well as a SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division winners medal in 2018.

Williams now makes the move to her home-town club, where she will look to play an important role in what will be a historic year for the Blues.

Speaking to the club after becoming our first-ever senior women’s signing, Williams spoke of her excitement at representing the Blues, commenting:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here and privileged to be able to represent the club I’ve grown up supporting. To be a part of Waterford’s first ever senior women’s team means a lot to me and I’m looking forward to a competitive season with the Blues.”

Head Coach Gary Hunt was delighted to secure the services of Williams for 2025, outlining:

“I am delighted to have Maeve on board for our inaugural season in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division. Maeve has had to play elsewhere over the years to recognise her dream at playing at the highest level in the country, and it was a no-brainer to bring her home and showcase her ability to all the Blues fans.

Playing for the club she has supported all her life is something that motivates Maeve to be the best she can be, and I have no doubt she will give her all for the club. Having known Maeve for many years, I am looking forward to seeing her take this opportunity with both hands.”

Williams will wear the number 1 shirt for the Blues in 2025.

Welcome to the Blues, Maeve!
