Waterford FC are excited to announce the signing of Olivia Gibson ahead of the 2025 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.
Gibson makes the move to the Blues having previous League of Ireland experience with Treaty United FC, after coming up through the Cork City FC academy.
Olivia Gibson hails from Mayfield in Cork. Her football journey began with her local club Passage AFC. Olivia was then signed by Cork City FC U17 and played a key role in Cork City FC’s Under-17 Women’s National League-winning team in 2020. She demonstrated her ability to perform under pressure, playing a crucial role in securing the league title.
Her potential was acknowledged early on when she received her Under-17 cap for Ireland, a testament to her hard work and promise in the sport.
In 2021, Olivia progressed to the senior level with Treaty United in the Women’s National League, where she made 20 appearances, starting 17 matches, and contributed three goals. Her performances showcased her skill, determination, and work ethic on the pitch.
Seeking new challenges, Olivia moved to the United States, where she played for Neosho County Community College in Kansas. Her freshman season was outstanding, tallying 20 goals and 11 assists. Her impressive performances earned her several accolades, including Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and First Team All-American honors.
Now, Olivia takes the next step in her football journey by joining Waterford FC, whereshe will bring her experience, attacking threat, and leadership to the team. We are excited to welcome Olivia to the Blues and look forward to seeing her make an impact in the upcoming season.
Head Coach Gary Hunt is delighted to welcome Olivia to the Blues for 2025, commenting:
“Olivia came to us looking to return to playing at this level and looking at her in training I believe there is something there that could benefit both the club & the player. She is keen to contribute to the group and I am keen to see how she takes this opportunity.
I’m sure in time we will get the best out of Olivia but for now she needs to keep her head down and work hard and the rewards will come. She is the type of player that can hurt teams with the ball in the opposition half and sees the game from an attackers point of view. With the players around her I’m sure this is something we will work on going forward.”
Welcome to Waterford, Olivia!
