Waterford FC are delighted to welcome Lauren Walsh to the club, signing for our senior women’s side for our 2025 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division campaign.
Walsh, a versatile and composed defender, brings an abundance of quality, experience, and adaptability to our squad for our maiden year in senior women’s football.
Lauren began her football journey with Wilton United, where she developed into a strong and intelligent defender before making the step up to senior football with Cork City FC.
Over the years, she became a key figure in the Women’s National League, making 80 appearances for Cork City and showcasing her ability to play both as a full-back and centre-back, offering tactical flexibility to any team she plays for.Her talent was recognised early on when she was named Cork City FC’s WU19 Player of the Year in 2019, a testament to her development and impact at the underage level.
She continued to impress as she transitioned into senior football, culminating in an outstanding 2023 season, where she was awarded Cork City FC Player of the Year.
Whether playing out wide or in the heart of the defense, Lauren’s defensive awareness, composure on the ball, and ability to read the game make her a vital asset on the pitch.
She is equally adept at shutting down opposition attackers and driving forward to support the attack when needed.
Speaking about her move to the Blue, Lauren said:
“I’m really excited to be joining Waterford FC and taking on this new challenge. The club has a great environment, and I can’t wait to contribute both on and off the pitch. I’m looking forward to developing my game further and working with the team to achieve our goals this season.”
Head Coach Gary Hunt is delighted to welcome Walsh to his squad for 2025, commenting:
“Lauren has come in and really taken to what we want to do as a team & a club and I’ve no doubt her experience will be brilliant for our younger players. She has backed all this up with her performances in pre-season and I’m delighted to have her on board.
Her ability to play on the front foot as a defender will be important for us and something which no doubt will get her back to playing at the level she demands of herself.”
Welcome to The Blues, Lauren!
