Erin O’Brien is a Blue!

Waterford FC are delighted to announce that Erin O’Brien has become the latest member of Gary Hunt’s side ahead of the 2025 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division campaign.

O’Brien makes the move to the RSC having previous League of Ireland experience with Cork City FC, where she has spent the last two years with their first-team.

Erin’s family have a rich history in the League of Ireland, with her brother Tiernan currently lining out for Cobh Ramblers FC in the First Division, along with being a cousin to Benion & Joe Whitmarsh O’Brien who both spent time in the League of Ireland with Joe now at English Premier League side Southampton FC alongside former Blue Romeo Akachukwu.

The Fermoy-native made her first-team debut for the Rebel Army in 2023, making her debut against Peamount United along with four further appearances that year.

Injury stalled her progress in 2024 for her club, where she made 7 appearances, but excelled on the college scene as she played a vital role in UCC’s historic league win against ATU Sligo earlier this season.

An attacking player who can play anywhere across the front line with an abundance of pace, O’Brien is an exciting addition to Gary Hunt’s squad for 2025.

O’Brien is looking forward to her opportunity in representing the Blues in 2025, commenting:

“I’m delighted to have signed for Waterford’s first Senior Women’s Team this season. I’m looking forward to this new opportunity and proving myself on the pitch. Gary has shown a lot of faith in me and I’m ready to pay it back. It’ll be a tough but exciting season and I can’t wait to get to work.”

Welcome to Waterford, Erin!
