Waterford FC are excited to announce the signing of striker Lauren Egbuloniu to our senior women’s side ahead of the 2025 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division season.
Egbuloniu makes the switch from Cork City to the Blues for 2025, having spent time in America plying her trade along with the League of Ireland Lauren came up through the Cork City academy after joining from her hometown club in Passage AFC, where she was a member of the Rebel Army’s senior side that reached the FAI Cup final in 2020 – losing to Peamount United FC in the showpiece final.
The striker netted seven goals for the Cork first-team in 26 appearances, before making the move across the Atlantic ocean in 2021, where she joined Louisena Tech on a scholarship. Lauren added 12 goals to her resume while abroad, before returning hometo Cork City towards the end of 2024, where she made 3 league appearances for the club.
Speaking to the club after her move, Egbuloniu was delighted to make the move to the Blues for 2025, commenting:
“I am absolutely delighted to be coming to Waterford. All the girls have been so welcoming as well and after meeting everyone I knew it was the right move for me. I’m excited for what we can bring to the league and I’m ready to cause some upset!
I’m aggressive and physical. I will get stuck right in and help the team in whatever way possible. I like to play off people a lot so building those relationships on the field will be extremely important to me. This is a new challenge for me that I’m ready to face”.
Head Coach Gary Hunt is looking forward to working with Lauren in 2025 himself, saying:
Another player making the move from Cork City, Lauren has been in around the league for many years now and will bring that experience to lead from the front for us in 2025.
Her experiences in the league and also in the states has really helped mature Lauren into a player with a good head on her shoulders and no doubt one who will bring out the best in others too.
We are a work in progress and if we can get the right service to Lauren I think it will be something she will thrive upon and I’m sure the Blues fans will enjoy watching her in action.
Welcome to the Blues, Lauren!
