Danielle Burke is a Blue

Waterford FC are excited to announce the signing of Danielle Burke to our Women’s first-team ahead of the 2025 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division, which kicks off next week.

A commanding presence at the heart of Cork City’s defence for over seven seasons, Dan brings leadership, resilience, and top-level experience to our squad for the coming season.

Dan’s football journey began with Passage AFC, where she developed her defensive skills before progressing to the senior game. She went on to establish herself as a key player for Cork City FC, making over 140 competitive appearances for the Rebel Army.Known for her composure, tactical awareness, and ability to read the game, Dan was a pillar of City’s backline, providing consistency and guidance to teammates.

Her impact was especially crucial during Cork City’s 2017 FAI Women’s Cup triumph, where she played a key role in securing a historic 1-0 victory over UCD Waves, helping the club lift its first major trophy.

On the international stage, Dan proudly represented Ireland at WU16, WU17, and WU19 levels, showcasing her talent and versatility at the highest youth levels.

After taking a break from the Women’s National League in 2024, Dan is eager to return to top-flight football and make an impact once again. Her defensive strength, leadership, and experience will be invaluable to the Blues as we prepare for the upcoming season.

Speaking to the club after making the move, Dan is delighted to the opportunity with the Blues in 2025, commenting:

“I’m really excited to be joining Waterford FC and getting back into the league. This is a fantastic club with big ambitions, and I can’t wait to get started. I’m looking forward to working with the squad and helping the team push forward this season. The environment has been really positive and enjoyable and we are working hard.”

Blues Head Coach Gary Hunt is delighted to have the services of Burke for 2025, mentioning:

“When a player like Danielle becomes available, I think it was a no-brainer for us to get her in and I’m sure it will be a move that benefits both parties. Her experience at this level will be fantastic for this young group and the opportunity for her to return to this level and show what she can do is something that really motivates her.

I am really looking forward to working closely with Danielle and helping shape how this team will look on the pitch. Myself & the staff have been really impressed with Danielle and the group in how they have connected so far.”

Welcome to The Blues, Dan!
